About

Matthew joined the Carlomagno Lab in November 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow, having obtained a Wellcome PhD studying RNA modification related proteins under Profs Chris Schofield and Yang Shi at the University of Oxford. Specifically, his PhD research investigated inhibition of RNA m6A methylating and binding proteins. Recombinant protein (bacteria, insect) allowed for the setup of functional assays (MS, FP, DSF, HTRF) and structural studies (crystallography, NMR). CRISPR screening aiding in rational selection of targets. During a subsequent 6-month research scholarship he gained experience in ribozymes and other structured RNA at the University of Fudan. In his postdoc he is motivated to study the interactions between structured RNA and proteins, particularly mRNA, using in vitro techniques.
